No matter how heartbreaking it is, every dog parent knows that saying goodbye to our favorite four-legged pups is the hardest part of owning a dog. Their average lifespan extends from ten to thirteen years old only, so we tend to cherish every passing moment with them, especially during their golden years.
But knowing that our dogs are being taken from us not by old age but by sickness adds to the gravity of the situation. That is precisely what Maci Hanson’s family experienced when they learned that Stitch, their adorable Labrador, is suffering from lymphoma, a type of cancer affecting the immune system of the victim.
At that very moment, they knew Stitch would be taken from them sooner or later. Maci wasn’t planning on spending the rest of his days miserable and grieving, so instead of lamenting about the situation, she decided to fill his remaining days with all the care and love he deserves.
Maci remembered how much Stitch adored the beef patty served at the local fast-food restaurant, Whataburger. There was no better way to make the pooch happier than spoiling him with all the beef patties he could possibly devour. But Maci wanted to make his send-off more memorable than just a plain old trip to the fast food spot.
Stitch deserved more than just that, so Maci is determined to give him more. She took to Twitter last May and reached out to the burger chain to assist her in throwing the best possible party for her beloved pooch. Whataburger responded within a day and immediately sent her a party package complete with orange hats, balloons, and a good deal of beef patties.
Maci and her family celebrated days after, taking lots of photographs and showering the pup with plenty of cuddles and burgers. The next day after their celebration happened to be Stitch’s last day, and Maci couldn’t be more content knowing that her lovable lab lived the final day of his life happy and full, thanks to his favorite burger chain.
