Hurricane Harvey in 2017 left the Gulf Coast in shambles for months. Lives have been lost and homes destroyed. Amid the chaos, a six-month-old terrier mix named Ava miraculously survived. But it seemed that time has one more test for her.
Within a week after the hurricane devastated her entire neighborhood, Ava encountered a couple of heartless people. She was shot in her right eye. Not getting enough of the violence they have inflicted on the poor dog, they even beat Ava with a hammer.
Yet again, Ava proved that she’s a survivor. She was able to outrun death once more. But this time, she suffered from unspeakable injuries and trauma.
Luckily, someone with a kind heart found Ava and surrendered her to the Houston BARC. Due to the time that has passed, her wounds started to heal without any medical treatments.
Because of the devastations brought by the hurricane, every shelter had its hands full. So many stray animals needed immediate help. Many families are coming in and out of shelters trying to find their lost pets as well.
But as soon as the rescuers of Houston Pets Alive saw how dire Ava’s situation, they did not hesitate to give her the medical attention she needed. The poor dog needed to undergo four surgeries, all on the same day. And its medical bill skyrocketed to more than $6,000.
Ava had difficulties eating, hearing, and seeing because of her multiple injuries. Despite the crisis that everyone struggles to get by, they still willingly and openly lend a hand and send help for Ava. They were able to quickly raise the amount needed for Ava’s medical care.
A couple of days after her surgery, Kilyn and Fransisco reached out to the shelter and fostered Ava. They opened their home and showed Ava a life full of love and care.
Despite everything poor Ava went through, she remained a sweet and grateful pup. Her foster family even changed her name to Bubbles because they believed it best suits her personality.
Bubbles again underwent a three-hour surgery to remove the bullet that was lodged behind her right ear. A portion of her jawbone was also removed so she could use her mouth normally. A section of her right ear canal was removed because the bullet damaged it too.
Kilyn and Fransisco stayed with Bubble the entire. And after the surgery, they were relieved to hear that the operation was a success. Right at that moment, they both knew that they want Bubble to stay with them forever. And so they made it official and finally adopted sweet Bubbles.
The scars on Bubbles face are evidence of her strength and bravery. She was able to conquer all the difficulties that life throws at her. She even became an ambassador to all the dogs who have been through all types of abuse. And boy, she’s excellent at it!
Today, Bubbles have no time to be sad over her dark past. She’s just too busy living the best life she most certainly deserves.
