I get sad whenever I see stray puppies struggling to survive. I always make it a point to leave food out for stray dogs whenever I can and to call an animal rescue or a nonprofit dog rescue to help strays find a forever home. For dogs, living as a stray is extremely hard.
Stray dogs aren’t the most attractive dogs that you’ll ever see. However, we have to remember that no one’s taking care of them, and they get mange and become severely emaciated because of the lack of attention. They don’t have easy access to food and clean water, and they’re always exposed in a dangerous environment where speeding vehicles can hit them, or not-so-dog-friendly people can hurt them.
A nonprofit animal rescue organization found a little puppy in a vacant parking lot in Mexico. It looked severely emaciated and had mobility problems. Eventually, the rescue organization that found and rescued the puppy got in touch with their partner rescue in the US called United Hope For Animals. Katja Guenther of United Hope For Animals arranged the transfer of the little puppy to their facility and assumed responsibility for its care.
The puppy was named Ellie, and it was in such a horrible shape that Katja and her wife couldn’t believe how frail and thin little Ellie was. Aside from being malnourished, little Ellie also had mange and had difficulties walking. Ellie didn’t walk normally, and Katja suspected that Ellie had neurological problems.
Katja and her wife noticed that Ellie’s back legs look as if it was a little disconnected from the rest of her body. Because Ellie could feel so little on the lower half of her body, she had incontinence issues in addition to her mobility issues. Katja suspected that Ellie’s tail was pulled really hard, or someone swung her by her tail.
Ellie has a hard time holding her pee, especially when she’s excited. Katja and her wife hoped that Ellie would outgrow her issues, but that time never really came. However, Katja came into terms with taking care of Ellie. After a while, Katja and her partner got used to the routine of changing Ellie’s diapers, and they accepted that they needed to do a little bit more laundry.
Despite Ellie’s neurological issues, she still loves going on long hikes with her foster parents. Ellie loves being outdoors as well as being with the other big dogs. Ellie proves to be such a loving pit bull who wants to love and be loved. Ellie is finally ready to be adopted by a special family that is patient, loving, and willing to care for a special needs dog. Here’s a heartwarming video telling Ellie’s story, which will also show just how special she is.
