Recovering from an addiction is a very difficult thing to do. Without adequate support from loved ones, an addict will most likely relapse and go back to old habits that led to substance abuse. However, support can come in different ways. Usually, it’s through other humans but it can also be through pets.
A man named PJ was recovering from substance abuse and addiction and was struggling to deal with it. PJ had no family to support him and he was also battling depression and anxiety, which made it more difficult to stay clean. His mind was always in a dark place and needed support to help him battle his demons. Eventually, he decided to adopt a rescue dog.
PJ figured that since he was changing his life, it would be nice if he could do the same for a dog. After walking into an animal shelter, he met a rescue dog named Clove. PJ discovered that Clove was going to be euthanized since no one really wanted to adopt her. He wanted to give Clove a second chance and decided to adopt her.
PJ was warned that Clove had been through so much trauma in her life that it would be difficult for her to adjust to a new environment. Clove was so traumatized in her past life that she refused to look PJ in the eye when she first came home with him.
PJ knew how Clove felt and gave her the space she needed to decompress. He was determined to help Clove to learn to trust humans again by showing her how beautiful life can be. PJ worked tirelessly to help Clove, which also helped him recover from his addiction. His dedication to helping Clove gave him a sense of purpose, which helped him deal with depression and anxiety. In a way, Clove also helped PJ.
PJ believes that he and Clove saved each other’s lives. Eventually, they became inseparable and ended up becoming happy and fulfilled for having each other in their lives. Clove still carries that trauma from her past life but she’s a lot happier now with PJ.
