One Alaskan malamute named Trojan arrived at the care of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), UK’s largest animal welfare charity, dirty, matted, and unbelievably obese. He weighed a tipping 101 kilograms which was the same weight as a baby elephant. The ten-year-old dog also suffered from arthritis and thyroid problems.
Thankfully for Trojan, the staff was all hands on deck to help him lose weight. They first got him on a very special diet and then gave him an exercise regime to follow. But while it was important that he shed a big chunk of his weight, the staff made sure that it was at the right pacing. So, they did everything slowly and safely.
And sure enough, after a year of diet and exercise, Trojan shed over 40 kilograms which were almost half of his original weight.
Now, the loveable bear as the staff of RSPCA lovingly called him, is looking to find a warm and caring home. According to the staff, though Trojan might be in what is called his twilight years, he has no intention of retiring anytime soon. He is still very strong and loves to go on walks and even hang out around the shelter’s garden and have a good sniff.
As for other dogs, Trojan gets along with them very well though he doesn’t really like being jumped at. So, he is best with dogs who are playful yet calm, respectful dogs. But the staff thinks that Trojan would be best-suited as an only child so that he could really get all the attention and affection he needs and deserves. He also enjoys a good belly rub every now and then and he is just happy to sleep through the day.
Hopefully, Trojan gets a loving forever home soon.
