I read this story and have to admit; I was a little jealous.
I’ve raised two babies myself and never got a full night’s sleep. All those sleep-deprived nights and the problem could have been solved with a devoted pet dog.
Meet Prince. Prince is an Australian Labradoodle, whose owners, Zach and Sara Lebwohl, welcomed a baby girl into their family a couple of years ago. When Sara gave birth, she said Prince would come up to her to inspect the new addition. He would sniff her and understood she was a tiny and fragile creature. The dog would stay close to Sara and watch over the baby.
As Halle grew into a toddler, Prince and the little girl formed a close bond. He has been a bit of a caretaker to Halle since she was first brought home. Now at two years old, Halle sleeps by herself in her bedroom. She still has many restless nights and is often unsettled and fidgety in the early mornings.
The dog, Prince, has always slept with Zach and Sara. Prince also always knows when Halle is upset and is usually the first one up when she starts fussing. Prince always follows Zach or Sara into the nursery to check on Halle. The Lewohl’s got an idea to leave both bedroom doors open one night, and see if Prince would get up and go into Halle’s room on his own.
Zach installed a Nest camera in his daughter’s room, and they saw on the video footage that Prince came to the rescue when Halle started fussing. Watch the video below:
Sara said Prince would hear Halle and walk in to greet her.
He rolls around on the ground, immediately calming the toddler.
The dog gives her a reassuring look and then lays down on the rug beside her crib. Halle lays back down and goes to sleep. Mom and dad get to sleep uninterrupted. Brilliant!
