Katie Newhouser, a UPS driver for 15 years, is a friend to every dog owner in her route.
All their pets adore Katie because she loves to greet dogs with treats and hugs. She would never visit them empty-handed.
Over the years, she became particularly close to a friendly Pit Bull named Leo. Leo and his mom Tina Rummel, reside in one of the neighborhoods within Katie’s delivery network.
One day while on her regular route, Katie passed by Tina’s house and learned that the poor woman has passed away, leaving Leo behind. The devastating news meant Leo would be all alone. Tina’s son, Canon, was away on active duty. Worried about Leo’s well-being, Katie started to check on him regularly. This set up was working perfectly until one day when Leo got inside her truck and refused to leave. Katie realized Leo needed a new home.
She agreed to foster Leo until Canon gets back from the Marines.
Meanwhile, in his new home, Leo has bonded well with Katie and her other dogs. They became so close they were inseparable. His furry siblings have helped him a lot on days when he would terribly miss Tina. He would sob like a baby, but the other dogs will cheer him up.
Seeing her dogs showing so much affection for Leo, Katie realizes it would be tough for all of them, including herself, to let go of Leo the moment Canon gets back.
Katie decided to file for Leo’s adoption eventually. Thankfully, it was approved, and Leo now has a new forever home. His friendly disposition has returned, and he is now safe and happy with his dog siblings. Though he had lost his human mom Tina, Leo found a happy ending with Katie and his doggo family.
