Katharine was browsing an animal shelter’s page when she saw a photo of a dog named Simon who was on the list to be euthanized. Katharine knew that she and her boyfriend, Cody, were not yet ready to have a second dog, so they decided on fostering Simon to save his life.
Katharine recalled that she immediately had to pull over to the side of the road as soon as she drove away from the shelter because Simon would not stop showering her with kisses. Simon felt that being in the backseat was too far away from his rescuer, so he decided to jump to the front seat and kiss his foster mom as if there was no tomorrow.
Simon eventually calmed down and took a nap right next to Katharine. Simon slept on Katharine’s lap during the entire car ride because he wanted to have some part of him touching his new foster mama.
Katharine admitted how nervous she was when she got home because she was unsure how Simon and her other dog, Bubby, would react to one another. Katharine was also concerned about how the two dogs would respond to sharing space, toys, and her attention.
Katharine knew that it would be a difficult adjustment to have two big dogs at home because both Simon and Bubby had rough pasts and had not been properly trained or socialized at all. However, Katharine’s worries went away as soon as she saw Simon and Bubby playing with one another as if they have been best friends for a long time.
Katharine and Cody knew that saying goodbye to Simon would be difficult because everyone grew attached to him. The couple eventually decided to Simon because he turned out to be the missing piece of the puzzle that their family never knew was missing.
