The thing about pooches is that they are so irresistible and lovable that even the most anti-dog dads can fall in love with them at the first meeting. Just take it from this dad from Australia, who has always lived with cats but became instantly smitten with his daughter’s adorable Golden Retriever.
Roughly seven years ago, Rachael Rodrigues received a charming Golden Retriever puppy as her graduation gift. She was thrilled to finally be a dog mom, of course. But at the same time, she was pretty hesitant to take the pooch home because her parents were huge cat persons.
They had only had cats for pets for the majority of their lives and were opposed to taking in a dog due to the extra work that came with it. Basically, they weren’t thrilled about having to train a dog, walk it regularly, and do the grooming. However, Rachael’s dad immediately had a change of heart the moment he met Oliver.
He fell so hard for the puppy that Rachael would always see him carrying Oliver around the house and treating him like his own child. On the pup’s first week in his new home, Rachael’s dad even went above and beyond for Oliver and slept with him on the floor when he had a stomachache.
Over the years, Rachael’s dad and Oliver had become very close-knit that they began an adorable routine whenever it was Oliver’s nap time. Every time the dotting fur dad saw the Golden Retriever lying on his bed, he would automatically grab Oliver’s favorite blanket and tuck him in like a giant toddler.
He would then bend over and kiss the pooch on his head, much to Oliver’s delight. Of course, the pup would always return the gesture and shower Rachael’s dad with warm cuddles and kisses at random parts of the day, too. Watch the duo’s wholesome naptime routine here.
